THE INSPIRATION BEHIND SUM FUN

SUM FUN was invented by David Bullen, an accountant from Surrey. He has always had an interest in playing board games like Monopoly, Risk and Scrabble.

David has his mother to thank for bringing him up on a diet of board games. It wasn’t unusual to find them playing a game of Scrabble well into the early hours (even falling asleep during turns at times!). Being a bit of a ‘wordsmith’, his mother would ofter win. The problem was, David was always more of a numbers rather than a letters man.

David had always wondered how different things would be if the tables were turned. It was during a weekend away that he had a moment of inspiration…

“WHAT IF I COULD INVENT A TILES GAME WHICH WAS NUMBERS BASED BUT ALSO QUICKER TO PLAY THAN SCRABBLE”

MAKING SUM FUN HAPPEN

And so the journey began… that night David gathered scraps of paper together and started experimenting with some combinations of symbols and numbers. After several months of tinkering with various tile combinations and developing a set of rules, he finally had a game that could be played with friends and family.

After receiving positive feedback, David was encouraged to get a full prototype of the game produced, so others could play. And so here we are…

NOT JUST SUM FUN - EDUCATIONAL TOO!

Remember SUM FUN is more than a game, it’s also educational. Being a father of two young boys, David was keen for them to get a good grasp of numbers at an early age.

He has been amazed at how much fun and stimulation children get from playing around with the tiles. They enjoy finding numbers, making sequences and doing simple sums.

We hope you have as much fun and enjoyment playing SUM FUN as our friends and family do. Go ahead and have SUM FUN with numbers!
